The new sustainable communities standard – ISO 37101 – has been published today.
It is designed to help communities to become more sustainable, inclusive and resilient – building social cohesion, so very relevant to current issues.
David Jackman in a primary author of this international standard and the UK lead. This follows the UK national standards BS8904 and 8900, which he also authored.
The original ideas came from initiatives started in the community of Grasmere, Cumbria.
The aim of all these frameworks is to encourage grassroots enterprise and engagement. ISO 37101 can be certified and pilots are now underway in China. This is the cornerstone of a large suite of standards including guidance documents to follow. All are available from British Standards (BSi).
